YouTube Course Tracker is designed as a local-first learning tool. It helps track YouTube course progress, timestamped notes, bookmarks, and study reports in your browser.

Data stored by the extension

The extension may store the following data locally in your browser:

  • YouTube video and playlist metadata needed for course tracking, such as title, channel, thumbnail, video ID, playlist ID, and duration.
  • Watch progress, timestamps, watched intervals, completion status, and study time.
  • Timestamped notes and bookmarks that you create.
  • Course preferences such as category, language, and study goal.
  • Extension settings and local backup/import data.

Data transmission

The extension does not sell, share, or transmit your notes, bookmarks, course progress, or study reports to external servers. Data is generated from local browser extension storage.

The extension does not require an account and does not include cloud sync in this version.

Permissions

The extension requests browser permissions to provide its features:

  • storage: save courses, notes, bookmarks, settings, and study progress locally.
  • tabs: detect the active YouTube page and open resume or timestamp links.
  • clipboardWrite: copy timestamp links, exported notes, or generated prompts when you choose to do so.
  • https://www.youtube.com/*: read YouTube video and playlist page information needed for tracking.

Third parties

YouTube Course Tracker is not affiliated with YouTube or Google. YouTube pages are still subject to YouTube's own privacy practices.

AI prompt features only prepare text that you can copy manually. The extension does not send notes or prompts to AI services by itself.
